Kapar MP quits party post

PETALING JAYA: Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam has resigned as the Selangor PKR deputy liaison chairman.
Manikavasagam, who handed his letter of resignation to Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim yesterday, said he was “disappointed with the Selangor state government under the administration of Pakatan Rakyat, which did not value the contributions of MPs”.
However, he clarified he was only leaving his position, and not the party.
“I will meet with the (party de-facto leader) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibra-him first and discuss with him. We have to discuss the issue. He is the leader and then we will see,” he said at a press conference here yesterday. With him was his wife C. Malarkodi.
He later rushed off to attend the party’s informal Indian liaison committee meeting.
Manikavasagam said he would be going to Chennai, India, on Monday to attend a convention, adding that he would meet with Anwar after returning on Jan 12.
On Friday, he had announced his intention to quit the party, saying he was disappointed with the attitude of Selangor PKR leaders and with the in-fighting among the state leaders.
His announcement drew varied reactions, with some asking him to reconsider and Khalid saying that it was “up to him”. PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had said that Manikavasagam should also quit as MP if he left the party.
“I will wait and see,” Manikavasagam said, adding that he would maintain his position as Kapar MP even if he left the party.
