Zaid exposes DAP, MCA’s Kelab Sosial fund-raising connection, unveils “potential underground elements”

“You won’t see Chinese political leaders suffer this misfortune. They know how to raise money using social clubs that operate big businesses – businesses that operate in the subterranean world where enforcement officers have difficulty monitoring them.”

(Focus Malaysia) – FORMER de-facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (main image, center) has surely unearthed a gem of information after posing a riddle-sounding question to his social media followers – “what is it that MCA and DAP have in common”?

“They have friends in Kelab Sosial Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan. I wish I had known about the leaders of Kelab Sosial Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan,” tweeted the supposedly UMNO member with a Perikatan Nasional (PN) slant. “They are rich and influential.

But the riddle did not end there for Zaid went on to claim that “it is almost certain” that s0-called recreational club would be involved “whenever Chinese political parties or social organisations wanted to raise money”.

“And it’s virtually certain that Chinese political leaders regardless of which party is in power would make their appearance,” asserted the founder of Zaid Ibrahim & Co, the largest private law firm in Malaysia (which he no longer owns).

As to whether members of the social club are “leaders of the underworld”, Zaid contended that the response from government leaders has always been the same: “that it is registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS)”.

“So, they can’t be ring leaders of the underworld!” reckoned Zaid who was with DAP for three years between 2017 and 2020 during which he was the DAP Kelantan chairman at one stage.

“That’s how we deal with the underworld. We give them a veneer of legitimacy. You scratch my back, I scratch yours.”

For the record, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook has recently refuted claims that he had attended a dinner supposedly hosted by the ROS-sanctioned Kelab Sosial Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan.

Stating that “it is normal for elected representatives to attend Chinese association fundraising dinners”, the Transport Minister clarified that in fact, he and MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong had attended an event organised by Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi Saudagar Malaysia which used a somehow similar logo.

In revealing that Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing was also present at the event touted as a Chinese New Year fundraising dinner, Loke who is also the Seremban MP is adamant that insofar as he is concerned, “It was an event organised by a registered trade association”.

Previously, Edisi Siasat which is a crime buster group active on Telegram, had accused Loke and several DAP MPs of attending a “Gang 04” dinner on March 3. Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng was also named as having attended the event.

Whatever said and done, Zaid went on to draw a compassion with the modus operandi of Malay political parties/organisations which cannot access social clubs as a means to raise money.

“So, they depend on wealthy friends in business or the party to help them. Unfortunately, the few wealthy donors will soon be caught for some abuse of power or corruption. Then they go to jail,” he observed.

“You won’t see Chinese political leaders suffer this misfortune. They know how to raise money using social clubs that operate big businesses – businesses that operate in the subterranean world where enforcement officers have difficulty monitoring them.”

Even though the manoeuvre may be construed as illegal, Zaid doubted that the so-called “Malay leaders” (allies in the unity government) would act on such social clubs.

“Unlikely for so long as their comrades in politics depend on the social clubs for funding. So, the cycle of you scratching my back and I scratching yours will continue. You will never see the Political Funding Law come into operation.”
