Bersatu rep declares support for Selangor MB

Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari says his declaration of support is voluntary and in response to Selangor PN’s silence on accusations against the Rulers.

(FMT) – Bersatu’s Selat Klang assemblyman Abdul Rashid Asari has declared his support for Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari.

In a statement, the former executive council member said his support for the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led state government was voluntary.

He said he was prompted to back Amirudin after going through the Selangor sultan’s speech when opening the state assembly session, where the Ruler praised the state administration for being on the right track.

“This move is also the result of a series of actions by Perikatan Nasional (PN), especially Selangor PN’s silence on accusations levelled against the Rulers.

“This contradicts the principles of Malay-Muslims,” the former Selangor Bersatu chief added.

He said he remained committed to Bersatu but believed that his backing of the state government would benefit the people of Selat Klang.

Rashid was first elected as Selat Klang assemblyman in 2018, when Bersatu was a component of the PH coalition.

He defended his seat in the state election last year, with a strong majority of 42,703 votes ahead of Umno’s Roslee Abd Hamid.

He served as the culture, tourism, Malay civilisation and heritage executive councillor in Selangor from May 2018 to March 2020.

He was recently replaced by Azmin Ali as Selangor Bersatu chief.
