PNB confirms Ahmad Zulqarnain as group CEO

(Focus Malaysia) – EFFECTIVE July 1, Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn will be stepping up as president and group CEO of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB).

PNB’s board of directors shared via a statement that it has received “all the relevant regulatory approvals” for the appointment of Zulqarnain, which includes those from Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputra, the PNB board of directors, and the regulatory authorities.

This confirms a previous article, where Zulqarnain’s appointment was pending approval by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC).

He takes the place of Jalil Rasheed, who had resigned on June 15 after Jalil’s education credentials and working experience came under scrutiny.

Jalil also said in his farewell email that he had received harassing phone calls, while his corporate email and LinkedIn profile had been hacked. The matter is being investigated by both PNB and SC.

Zulkarnain was previously the deputy managing director of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, and was appointed in 2018. He was placed in charge of the strategic fund and managed Khazanah’s strategic holdings in government-linked companies as well.

He also headed the corporate strategy team in Khazanah.
