Even viruses change and mutate, what more Barisan Nasional?

When it comes to Umno, PAS or Muafakat Nasional, they talk about ethics and morals. When it comes to DAP or Pakatan Harapan, they talk about Chinese interests and use Malays to fight Malays. DAP and its leaders have the ethics and morals of a bitch in heat. And that, too, must be how Umno and PAS play this political game: play to win. So, let’s take PPBM away from Pakatan Harapan and swallow it into Muafakat Nasional.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

In the 10th May 1969 general election, Umno won only 35% of the seats in Parliament while the Alliance Party won 46% (with 1 million votes). PAS, DAP, Gerakan, PPP and Party Rakyat won 54% of the seats combined (with 1.4 million votes). Another 1 million registered voters did not vote.

In 1970, Tun Razak Hussein took over as Malaysia’s second Prime Minister and in 1973 the new coalition called Barisan Nasional was formed to replace the Alliance Party of Umno, MCA and MIC.

A year later, in the 1974 general election, the new Barisan Nasional coalition won 61% of the votes (or 1.3 million of the 2.1 million votes) and 88% of the seats in Parliament. Umno’s Parliament seats increased slightly to 40% (from 35% the election before that) while the defunct Alliance Party’s seats increased to 55% from 46%.

Tun Razak formed Barisan Nasional to save Umno and the Alliance Party

This proved that Tun Razak’s idea to form Barisan Nasional was wise. And Barisan Nasional continued to win all the general elections for the next 44 years until 2018.

The Alliance Party was 22 years old when Barisan Nasional was formed and Barisan Nasional was 44 years old when it got ousted from power. The Alliance Party became irrelevant in 1969 and Barisan Nasional became irrelevant in 2018.

When the Alliance Party became irrelevant in 1969, they formed Barisan Nasional. When Barisan Nasional became irrelevant in 2018, they formed Muafakat Nasional.

That is how things are done. When times change, you also change, and you move on. The Ottoman Empire failed to see this and it eventually disappeared. The British Empire, the Roman Empire, the Persian Empire, the Greek Empire, name any empire and you can see that they all resisted change and because of that all these empires no longer exist.

Those who resist change die

Even viruses change and mutate to stay alive. If not, today, viruses would no longer exist. And each time they change and mutate they become stronger.

In 1974, Barisan Nasional saved the Alliance Party (with PAS helping Umno to stay alive). And Muafakat Nasional will have to now save Barisan Nasional (with PAS, yet again, helping Umno to stay alive).

In short, you have to change and mutate to become stronger.

What about ethics? Ethics? This is politics. Politics is not about ethics. Politics is about power. And in politics it is not about how you play the game. It is about winning. And to win the end must justify the means.

Ethics has never been an ingredient in the pursuit for political power. If ethics was important, then DAP would never have gone to bed with PPBM. The fact that Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng can support Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad shows that DAP and its leaders are morally bankrupt and have absolutely no ethics whatsoever.
