DAP MP wants Pakatan presidential council to be firm on ending Mahathir’s premiership
(The Mole) – DAP’s Klang member of parliament Charles Santiago has called upon the Pakatan Harapan presidential council to be firm in setting a date for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to step down from his Prime Minister’s post.
Santiago made the call after Dr Mahathir said he was prepared to relinquish his post if the presidential council wanted him to do so.
“Presidential council, please make a decision,” Santiago said in a statement today.
He also described it as “very clever” of Dr Mahathir to shift the responsibility of setting the date for the transition of power to the presidential council.
Santiago also claimed that the sentiment on the ground have shifted and that Dr Mahathir no longer command the support of the people.
“His (Dr Mahathir’s) people, who monitor social media platforms, must have told him that the rakyat are asking him to go gracefully.
“But since Dr Mahathir has openly said that he would abide by the council’s decision, they must politely accept his offer of resignation.
“The ball, as they say, is now in the presidential council’s court. We will wait to hear from them,” said Santiago.
Dr Mahathir had said he was ready to give up his post in response to several PKR leaders who proposed that he hand over the prime minister’s post to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in May.
Previously, Dr Mahathir had said that he would do so after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meeting to be hosted by Malaysia in November.
