Wanita Gerakan to PH govt: Stop politicising issues and start running the country

(The Star) – The Pakatan Harapan-led Government should stop politicising issues and focus on seriously running the country, says outgoing Wanita Gerakan chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe (pic).

“Stop politicising, stop the blame game, stop making silly statements, flip-flops and U-turns.

“You don’t want to fan the people’s anger any further,” she said at the opening of Gerakan’s Wanita and Youth delegates conference here on Saturday (Nov 17).

She said that the people have started to grow disenchanted with the new Government as cost of living and prices of goods are still on the rise.

“They feel cheated because promises have been left unfulfilled,” she said, adding that the people are thirsting for change.

She said the time has come for Pakatan to prove itself and start working to improve the nation’s economy.

Tan also said Gerakan should accept its defeat in the 14th General Election with open hearts but it doesn’t mean that the party should remain buried.

“There are weaknesses we need to correct in order for us to rise up in the new political landscape.

“We need to stand on our own two feet, the fate of the party is in our hands,” she said.

She said the party can also learn from rival Pakatan, especially in the way they utilised the Internet for their campaigns.

“We need to learn their strategy and languages used to retaliate on their attacks,” she said.

Tan, who has led the party’s women’s wing for 15 years, stepped down from her post as Gerakan Wanita chief to make way for a new leadership.

The women’s wing is now led by Janice Wong, who won uncontested.
