Anwar equivalent to Malaysia’s Mandela?

PAS, Warisan, PBB, and all those other parties from Sabah and Sarawak (Umno Sabah included) have to think of their own states’ interests. Whether Mahathir or Anwar becomes Prime Minister (or whether Barisan or Pakatan is the federal government) really does not matter. What matters is the interests of Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak. And if that means support Mahathir as Prime Minister, then that should be the game-plan. Hence maybe Anwar should be defeated in Port Dickson.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Danyal Balagopal Abdullah said he felt obliged to offer the Port Dickson parliament seat to Anwar Ibrahim whom he likened to the late Nelson Mandela due to his incarceration.

If that is the criteria for becoming Malaysia’s Mandela then there are many bank robbers, rapists and murderers in prison who quality to contest the Port Dickson by-election.

Anwar Ibrahim is Malaysia’s Mandela, says Danyal Balagopal Abdullah who sold his Port Dickson seat to Anwar for RM25 million

Mandela went to prison for opposing apartheid. The DAP Chinese say Malaysia also practices apartheid because of its Bumiputera preference policy, the quota system, the NEP, Article 153 of the Constitution of Malaysia, etc.

Does Anwar also oppose Malaysia’s ‘apartheid’?

As far as I have heard, Anwar said he upholds Malaysia’s ‘apartheid’? He never once said he shares DAP’s view that the Bumiputera preference policy, the quota system, the NEP, Article 153 of the Constitution of Malaysia, and so on, should all end or be repealed. So how does this make Anwar Malaysia’s Mandela?

As I said, Mandela went to prison for opposing apartheid. He also refused to recognise the apartheid regime’s court and judicial system. He refused to enter any plea because doing so would mean he recognises the court.

Anwar did not do all this. Anwar fought like hell and kept postponing his trial so that he can stay out of jail — until his trial became the longest trial in history. Then he appealed and appealed so many times to get his conviction set aside. Finally, when everything failed, he fought for a pardon to get out of jail. And, to get this pardon, he did a deal with the person who threw him into jail, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (yes, it was not Najib Razak who jailed Anwar for Sodomy 2).

Equating Anwar to Mandela is like equating Rose Chan to Mother Teresa

Furthermore, Mandela was not sent to jail for buggering boys and men. Hence to equate Anwar to Mandela is a huge insult to Mandela. That is like equating Rose Chan to Mother Teresa and proclaiming Rose Chan a national hero and declaring 26th May a public holiday. (If you are not old enough to remember Rose Chan then you are not old enough to talk politics).

Anyway, Anwar is contesting the Port Dickson by-election not so that he can serve the people there. His wife and daughter also never serve the people from their constituencies. Anwar is contesting the Port Dickson by-election so that he can become Malaysia’s Prime Minister. That is all, to become Prime Minister.

Hence it is a very selfish reason and not in the least for the good of the Port Dickson people. The Port Dickson voters are merely Anwar’s fodder for the post of Prime Minister.

There are some in Umno who want to help Anwar win the Port Dickson by-election. This is because they feel if Anwar wins that by-election then the next step would be for Anwar to oust Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and take over as Prime Minister.

Anwar missed the boat for PM KE7 so he has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to become PM KE8

But then Anwar cannot do it alone or just with his PKR. PKR is split into two so only half will support him while the other half will support Mahathir. Hence Anwar will need Umno and PAS if he wants to make his move on Mahathir.

And that is why some in Umno want to support Anwar and help him win the Port Dickson by-election. This will be the fastest way these Umno people can get back into power. Umno people who used to be Cabinet Ministers over three Prime Ministers (Tun Dr Mahathir, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Tun Razak) want to return as Ministers under Anwar.

DAP and Amanah have remained very quiet. They know Anwar is going to make his move on Mahathir. But they are saying nothing. Do they support Anwar’s move to oust Mahathir?

Many of these people can’t take being the opposition and they want to come back into the government through the back door that Anwar is offering them

They would rather wait and see whether Anwar makes his move and succeeds, or whether Mahathir will make his move first and finish off Anwar.

My assessment would be if Mahathir can assure Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak that they will get that increase in oil royalty they are asking for, then the parties from these four states will support Mahathir for Prime Minister. And that will mean Anwar is going to fail.
