Rafizi officially enters race for PKR No. 2 post


(The Star) – Incumbent PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has officially entered the race to contest the deputy presidency post in the upcoming party elections.

PKR election committee secretary Ismail Yusof announced that there was one candidate for the No. 2 post as of noon Sunday (Aug 5) after Rafizi filed his nomination papers.

This would mean that Rafizi is set to face PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali if the latter decides to defend his post.

Speculations on which post Azmin will be contesting will be answered this afternoon as he is expected to file his nomination papers.

Ismail also announced two nominations for the vice-presidency post so far, which is Selayang MP William Leong and Michael Thamil.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and former vice-president Fuziah Salleh is set to face Taman Medan assemblyman Haniza Mohamed Talha for the Wanita PKR chief post.

Batu Tiga assemblyman Dr Rodziah Ismail will face Sementa assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi for the deputy Wanita PKR chief post.

Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasir and Kota Anggerik assemblyman Najman Halimi will be in the race for the PKR Youth chief post.

Earlier, PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim submitted his nomination papers to contest for the party presidency.

The nomination papers were filed by party strategic director Sim Tze Tzin on behalf of Anwar at 11.15am on Sunday.

The PKR party elections will run for nine weeks beginning September.

Today is nomination day for candidates who want to contest for the national posts.

Over 900,000 PKR members will be eligible to vote in the party polls through an electronic balloting system.
