Malay Rulers’ meeting cancelled after appointment of new AG
(The Star) – The meeting of the Malay Rulers to deliberate on the new Attorney-General (AG) has been cancelled following the appointment of Tommy Thomas.
The meeting was supposed to take place at around 11am on Tuesday.
Media personnel waited from 8am at the main gate of Istana Negara but were told by a police officer at around 11.15am that the meeting has been called off.
Earlier, several police patrol cars were stationed around the palace area but they started to leave shortly after 11am.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V had consented to the appointment of Thomas as the new AG.
In a statement, the Controller of the Royal Household Datuk Wan Ahmad Dahlan Ab Aziz said the King, on the advice of the Prime Minister, has given the approval to the appointment of Thomas as the AG according to Article 145 (1) of the Federal Constitution.
