Zero plus zero is zero, says Kit Siang about ‘third force’
DAP supremo seemingly pours cold water over PAS’s new alliance with a multiracial party that has yet to be announced
(FMT) – DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang poured cold water on the expected alliance between the country’s Islamist party, PAS and a multiracial party, and hinted at its irrelevancy even if it was formed.
“Is there a third force?”
“In politics, zero plus zero equals to zero,” he said when asked about the matter at the party’s headquarters.
PAS is scheduled to announce a pact with a political party, rumoured to be Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan), in a bid to form a new Opposition bloc to rival that of Pakatan Harapan, which the Islamist party is not a member of.
Lim however refused to comment further on the matter, nor to clarify more about what he meant by the equation when asked.
On a separate note, DAP revealed that 10 more individuals, comprising MPs and lawyers, had decided to sign the Citizens’ Declaration.
The signatories include prominent lawyer Tommy Thomas, Rasah MP Teo Kok Seong, Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, national laureate A Samad Said and social activist K Arumugam.
“The Citizens’ Declaration clearly resonates with the people’s aspirations for Malaysia,” Lim said.
The Declaration, which was announced earlier this month, was led by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and politicians from both sides of the political divide. Other signatories included prominent individuals from NGOs and civil society, who have banded together in a bid to oust Prime Minister Najib Razak from office and to push for institutional reforms.
