PKR accepts Manikavasagam’s resignation

(The Star) PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali has confirmed that Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam’s resignation as the Selangor deputy liaison chairman has been accepted.

However, he said Manikavasagam would stay on as an ordinary member of PKR.

Dr Syed Husin said that accepting Manikavasagam’s decision was part of the democratic process and added that his resignation from the post was not a problem to the party.

He also said that PKR deputy secretary-general P. Jenapala had been dropped from his position due to his status as a bankrupt and he was now an ordinary PKR member.

“Jenapala didn’t inform us that he had been a bankrupt for about two years until recently. He claimed that he didn’t know about it, but we got to know about it after we made an official investigation into the matter.

“He didn’t resign from his post, but we decided to drop him because he should not be holding any party post.

“We have to follow the party constitution and the law,” Dr Syed Husin told reporters after chairing the party’s political bureau meeting at the PKR headquarters here last night.

To a question, he said it was untrue that PKR had ignored the Indian community, adding that the party remained strong.
