Wan Azizah files emergency motion of "no confidence" in PM; Speaker to decide on Monday

(The Sun) - Parliamentary Opposition leader Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today submitted an urgent motion of "no-confidence" in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, on behalf of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) MPs.

Wan Azizah said she submited the motion to the Speaker today under Standing Order Article 18(1) and (2) requesting a debate without the need of voting.

Parliamentary opposition leader Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan
Ismail leading a group of Pakatan Rakyat MPs to submit a motion of
no confidence against the prime minister to Speaker
Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia waiting for approval in 24 hours.

In a press conference at the parliament lobby later, she said the narrow victory of Barisan Nasional in the March general election, the sudden fuel price hike, the marginalisation of PR-led states and the alleged oppression of BN MPs to voice up, had led to the confidence crisis against the prime minister.

"The people are facing several massive crisis as the fuel, food and essential good prices are increasingly burdening them.

"The people's confidence is now fretted because of the worsening situation in the police, attorney-general, judiciary body, the crime rate and corruption.

"Therefore, we are confident that the motion should be debated in the House," she said.

Asked why PR decided to submit the motion now as it was reported that PR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will not move such a motion against Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Wan Azizah said when Anwar said it, the situation was not that bad.

"The motion submitted is meant for us to discuss about what is happening now (in the country)." she added.

Asked what would be the impact of the motion which does not require a voting, Wan Azizah said the move is to show that the PR is doing something within the parliamentary procedure available, for the people voted for PR.

Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timur) said he hoped the motion can be approved on Monday as it will be a gauge to see whether the confidence level of BN has deteriorated.

In a separate press conference later, Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia he will only make an announcement on the motion on Monday after the routine question and answer session.

"I need to rest, and I will thoroughly go through the motion over the weekend," he said.

Asked on what grounds would be given if he were to reject the motion, Pandikar Amin said: "You will know on Monday."

To another question, he said he was a retired politician, so reporters should not ask him as to the kind of impact the motion will create.

This would be the second time in a month that the prime minister is facing a "no confidence" threat in Parliament.

Abdullah almost faced a no-confidence motion from within the Barisan Nasional when a component party - the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) -- planned to table such a motion last month.

SAPP party president, Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee had announced the plan to table the no confidence motion but it was not submitted as two SAPP MPs - Datuk Dr Chua Soon Bui (Tawau) and Datuk Eric Majimbun (Sepanggar) decided not to attend Parliament because they claimed to have faced threats to their personal safety.

the motion will never be tabled. This is what you get for a system that has the speaker being appointed by the ruling party.

as a speaker, or a chairperson, a person needs to be impartial and not aligned nor affiliated to any political party.

I agreed with some of the bloggers above. The idiot speaker will not approved the no confidence motion for the opposition cos himself belong to BN member. Anyhow, no harm trying. At least PR give the speaker some homework bring home to think over it and make him more problematics.

In Malaysia the Parliment is just like your are playing tenis in a badminton court. The rules and standing orders are for the weak players to bark only.Any motion of vote of no confidence should start first by a vote of no confidence to
all the speakers. Sad to say the Speakers needs to learn which court the game is going to be played All this while Pandikar has been playing tenis in the badminton court. NOW IS BETTER FOR HIM TO GO BED- AND - TURN.

How can a motion “of no confidence” be passed?
When parlimen is constipated by surfeit of UMNO asses

We think despite all, AB’s tenure is temporarily “Semua-nya OK”

That coward will most likely not allow the no confidence motion to go through. It has been seen often enough that every time something is brought up against any BN monkey, the speaker will find some way of disallowing it. Look at what happened with that uncouth creep who showed that filthy sign. He has gotten away scott free.

Our Parliament doesn't seem to be a place of importance anymore. It is more like a three-ringed circus.

Even though this motion will prove to be a futile attempt, at least it has been put in record that there are parties who do not have confidence in the PM leadership. The ball is now in the court of the Speaker and we shall see what his decision will be on Monday.

I'm afraid the no confidence motion on the Badawi regime will be rejected by the Speaker. This sorry excuse for a Parliament Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia must be kicked out from Parliament together with the the other traitors of Sabahans and Sarawakians, Wan Junaidi and Ronald Kiandee as they have proven over and over again that they are not qualified to sit in the Speakers Chair.

If you can't stand the heat in the kitchen, then get the hell out suckers!!! By the way, do you know that the Tamil word for pig in pandi. Well sounds and looks like Pandikar.

Our Parliament should be a place where quality debates cab take place....ppl who show 'funny' gestures should not be inside, coming back to this issue,we should show some maturity and allow the debate to continue and let them debates to gauge how much and serious the support for the premier has eroded...since we always aim to be a world class parliament.....debates this with a open and free political thinking...leader comes and goes....but the good one should stay longer,,,not so good should not stay too long....

If we do not change the PM, Malaysia will join Zimbabwe very soon as 3rd class country full with highly corrupted politician, citizen will suffer further. Najis to be next PM will even put us in more disaster.

We should have the UMNO totally wipe off from the stage of politics only there is future for Malaysia. Bring together MCA and MIC and bungkus together.

Vote of no confidence is not a joke!!!
If there is a vote in parliament, and opposition wins, the government would have to resign (as a matter of principle).
How many times would PR seek vote of "no confidence" if they lose now?

Today the foreign minister of Thailand resigned (as matter of principle).
