Ignore LGBT issue – it’s a ploy by Mahathir

THE THIRD FORCE

We have legitimate reason to believe that Dr Mahathir Mohamad issued a directive for Pakatan Harapan leaders to play up the LGBT issue.

The purpose of the directive is to shift conversations away from the coalition’s many failures and blunders, including Daim Zainuddin’s failed China trip, Japan’s refusal to extend Malaysia a loan, China’s decision to impose a temporary ban on new deals with Malaysia and Pakatan’s failure to fulfil its election manifesto within a hundred days.

Bloggers and activists must remember, that the LGBT issue isn’t being discussed as a matter of policy by the Pakatan leadership, meaning, not only will it be a waste of time to spend too much time on it, any attempt to fan anger will simply serve to Mahathir’s purpose.

Basically, every time you decide to respond to an issue, ask yourself two things:

1. how will it resonate with the youth, who’re likely to form close to 50% of the voter population come the 15th general election, and

2. if you already know that the issue is angering the adults, don’t you think Mahathir does so too?

He knows that the youth of today, who’re likely to decide who gets to run the country come GE15, are the least bit concerned about the LGBT issue and are more open to gays and lesbians having equal rights.

He also knows that the more he agitates the adults, the more bloggers and members of the opposition will respond either to gain mileage or simply out of disgust.

So wise up, strategise, and stop being led by him.

Focus instead on speaking to the youth by explaining to them the importance of preserving our cultural identity as Malaysians.
