Malaysia Today had revealed the sand-mining scandal five years ago


Justice may be delayed but it can never be denied. Malaysia Today has said more than once that even if it takes ten years finally whatever we say gets proven true in the end. And this also holds true in the case of the sand-mining scandal in Selangor, which has been going on since Pakatan first took over the state in 2008. Read what we have written before this.

EPISODE 4: The Selangor Sand-Mining Scandal

(Malaysia Today, 8 February 2012) — On 18th January 2010, Double Dignity (M) Sdn Bhd, submitted an application to mine sand in Dengkil (Sepang, Selangor), an area of 45 acres. The letter was copied to Mat Suhaimi Shafiei and Amirudin Shari. Amirudin Shari supported the application and signed the ‘letter of support’. An important point to note is that Mat Suhaimi and Amirudin were both registered as Directors of Double Dignity (M) Sdn Bhd on that same day, 18th January 2010. And this is no coincidence.

Sand Mining: RPK Reveals ‘Dirt’ On Two Reps                                                                                                                                               

(Malaysia Today, 9 February 2012) — Controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, who vowed to reveal the dirt on the sand-mining scandal in Selangor, has implicated two Pakatan Rakyat state assemblymen. In an article published on his Malaysia Today news portal today, the blogger claimed that Mat Suhaimi Shafiei (Sri Muda) and Amirudin Shari (Batu Caves) had colluded with a well-heeled contractor, who forked out cash whenever requested.

Raja Petra also published the transcripts of alleged taped telephone conversations between Mat Suhaimi and the contractor, whom he referred to as “A”. During their first conversation, the name “Azmin” had also cropped up but it could not be ascertained if this was in reference to PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

Azmin Ali Not Involved In Selangor Sand Graft, Say PKR Duo

(The Malaysian Insider, 10 February 2012) — Two Selangor PKR state assemblymen, accused by Raja Petra Kamarudin of receiving bribes in the state’s sand-mining projects, have denied the blogger’s allegations, insisting they are innocent.

Shuhaimi Shafei (Sri Muda assemblyman) and Amiruddin Shari (Batu Caves) attacked Raja Petra today for linking Azmin Ali in the scandal, saying that the Selangor prince had confused the PKR deputy president with someone else. “RPK might have confused Azmin Ali with Azmin Karim who is my officer who has done a lot of work for me,” Shuhaimi said at a news conference here today.

Probe Sand Mining Scandal, Noh To Khalid

(Free Malaysia Today, 14 February 2012) — Agriculture and Agro-based Industry minister Noh Omar today challenged the Selangor government to open an investigation into allegations of sand mining graft in the state. The Selangor Umno deputy chief said he has evidence that the Pakatan Rakyat administration had abused its power in sand mining projects in the state.

MACC Panel: Keep Probing Sand Mining Scandal

(Free Malaysia Today, 23 February 2012) — A high-powered Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) panel recommended that the commission and the Attorney-General’s Chambers continue probing into the alleged corruption and sand theft syndicate in Selangor.

MACC Operations Review Panel (PPO) chairman Hadenan Abdul Jalil stressed today that the case was never closed but recently re-emerged when controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin wrote about it.

State Firm Denies Sand Deal Given To PKR Men’s Company

(The Malaysian Insider, 5 March 2012) — A state government subsidiary involved in the mining and selling of sand in Selangor today denied awarding a contract to a company linked to two Pakatan Rakyat state assemblymen, as accused by controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin.

Earlier this month, Raja Petra claimed that Sri Muda assemblyman Mat Suhaimi Shafiei and Batu Caves assemblyman Amirudin Shari had colluded with a well-heeled contractor to submit a sand-mining application to state-owned Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB).
