Ramasamy asks Pahang MB: Is it not betrayal for UMNO to join forces with PKR and DAP?

THE current Pahang Menteri Besar and UMNO vice-chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail issued a Facebook posting labelling me a “traitor” for resigning from DAP just before the Aug 12 six states election last year.

Prof Ramasamy Palanisamy, Focus Malaysia
He was responding to my recent statement where I questioned the credibility of UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in calling Bersatu as a party of traitors.

I merely said that Asyraf should be careful in what he is saying because of UMNO’s present political association with PKR and DAP in Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Once these two political parties were the mortal political enemies of UMNO but today the scenario is the exact opposite.

However, due to needs of political power and to address the sagging support of the Malays, UMNO has qualms of having political cooperation with PKR and DAP.

What has happened to UMNO leaders who had in the past repeatedly shouted political slogans such as “DAP the enemy of Malays”.

Today, DAP has given up its multi-racial stand to pursue power, positions and perks (3Ps). In this context, cooperation with UMNO – the most politically tainted party in the country – is not a problem for DAP or PKR.

As I pointed to Asyraf, how come UMNO has no problem in working with PKR, another offshoot of UMNO like Bersatu. If Bersatu can be condemned as a party of traitors, shouldn’t the same thing be said of PKR?

Fading into oblivion

However, hypocrisy and greed for power prevents UMNO leaders from alienating PKR because its president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the Prime Minister of the country.

Anwar was once an UMNO member and deputy president before he was sacked from the party. Perhaps the biggest betrayal of UMNO is to completely marginalise the political role of MCA and MIC in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.

Today, the coalition exists in name only. UMNO has taken over or reduced the role of the coalition to nothing. MCA and MIC that stood thick and thin with UMNO have been completely swept aside.

Isn’t this one of the greatest betrayals of UMNO? Yes, Wan Rosdy can call me a traitor for resigning from DAP. Coming from a member of the most tainted party in the country, such a labelling is an honour to me and to my political role in the country.

Prof Ramasamy Palanisamy

How come UMNO that condemned and ridiculed the DAP over decades as the #1 enemy of Malays and Islam is suddenly a good political buddy of DAP today?

Wan Rosdy branding me a traitor is as big an honour as when twice former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammed calling me a racist.

The performance of UMNO in the country can be likened to how the candle flares up just before it is extinguished forever. UMNO is trying its best to win back the lost support of the Malays.

Malays who were once loyal to UMNO have deserted the party in droves to support Bersatu and PAS. It would be near impossible for UMNO to become champions of the Malay race anymore. PAS and Bersatu have come to fulfill the role that UMNO once had.

Maybe Wan Rosdy who mercilessly gave direction a few years ago to tear down the farms of the cultivators in Cameron Highlands should re-examine his own role in the under-developed state of Pahang.

Wan Rosdy who cannot even do justice to the poor farmers is hardly the person who can ensure UMNO’s acceptance among the Malays.
