How ruing Taylor Swift as a missed opportunity has exposed possible factions, cracks in Bersatu

BERSATU but make it BERPECAH. Patut la ramai ahli lipat, ahli tertinggi parti pun tak sekepala.”

(Focus Malaysia) – AS Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong claimed that a closed-door deal for Taylor Swift to perform in the city-state as part of her highly-anticipated Eras Tour is not “unfriendly” to its ASEAN neighbours, the world’s billionaire musician could have exposed a deep discord within Bersatu.

This came about after the party’s controversial Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal ticked off the party’s legal and constitution bureau deputy chairman Sasha Lyna Abdul Latiff for demanding Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to provide an explanation for the “missed economic opportunity”.

“When did Bersatu ever discuss about this? She is not a main leader of Bersatu to issue an official view of the party on this matter,” rebutted the Machang MP in a tweet. “Her view is her own and doesn’t represent Bersatu’s. None of our Bersatu MPs ever raised this matter.”

Ironically, Sasha Lyna’s statement was echoed by Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu a.k.a. Peja who might no longer be a MP after he lost his Tambun seat to Anwar in the 15th General Election (GE15) with the Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman tweeted as follows:

The lament of the world’s best-selling songstress missing out Malaysia definitely pales in comparison with the fact that the party’s Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari has declared his support for the leadership of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The move by the former Bersatu Selangor chief who was replaced by PN on information chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali recently has come on the back of deflection by six MPs of the party who had similarly pledged support for Anwar’s unity government.

On that note, Bersatu had over the weekend (March 2) successfully amended the party’s constitution to prevent its representatives from defecting in the future. The decision was made in an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) where party representatives unanimously supported the motion to amend Article 10 of the Bersatu constitution.

The latest chain of events has surely set tongue wagging in the cyberspace especially with pro-Pakatan Harapan (PH) netizens/cybertroopers having a gala time teasing/undermining Wan Ahmad Fayhsal who is also the PN deputy youth chief.
