If Umno really respects the “mandat rakyat”, then give the government back to Pakatan Harapan

Umno says if they hold elections now, then Umno can menang besar, and if GE15 is held next year then Umno cannot menang besar. So what? Malaysia is NOT about Umno. Malaysia is about 33 million rakyat. What is good for 33 million rakyat is what matters, not what is good for 2.5 million Umno voters.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Some Umno leaders and activists are demanding that parliament be dissolved so that the rakyat can decide which government they want. Others say Umno must respect the wishes of the grassroots who want parliament to be dissolved so that a snap general election can be held ASAP.

If these Umno leaders and activists really respect the “mandat rakyat”, then give the government back to Pakatan Harapan — because that is the government the rakyat chose in May 2018. Apa susah sangat!

As what everyone says, the voters normally vote for the party, not for the individual. Therefore never mind who was that person who won that parliament or state seat, it was the party that won the seat, not the candidate. This is what they say.

They even say that if a tunggul kayu was fielded, the voters would still vote for the tunggul kayu so long as the tunggul kayu carries the party flag.

So the “mandat rakyat” was clear. They want Pakatan Harapan. Hence Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government should resign and hand the government back to Pakatan Harapan. And in July or August next year, after the current “mandat rakyat” expires, go get a new “mandat rakyat”.

Regarding those who say this is what the Umno grassroots want, who cares? Umno garnered only 2.5 million votes in May 2018. There are more than 21 million Malaysians who are eligible to vote out of a population on 33 million.

So those 2.5 million voters who voted for Umno are only 11% of the voters or 7.5% of rakyat Malaysia. Since when does what only 7.5% or 11% of the voters decide is what must happen? Hello…these 2.5 million Umno voters are the minority lah, not the majority.

In a democracy, what the 51% and above want matters, not what the 11% or less want. The voters voted for Pakatan Harapan in May 2018. So give the government back to Pakatan Harapan and shut the fook up. Umno has to start realising they are the minority, not the majority.

Do these Umno leaders and activists think they own the country? Do they think just because they garnered 2.5 million votes that means they can decide on behalf of the 92.5% of Malaysians who DID NOT vote for them.
