Zahid panics: he can get only 12 Umno MPs to support the bubar parlimen motion

The only way to know whether the majority in Umno support Zahid would be to hold the party election and see who the party chooses as the new Umno president. But Zahid is scared to do that because Ismail Sabri might win the presidency instead.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The latest headcount of the members of parliament who support Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s move to dissolve or bubar parliament is only 12 Umno MPs. Zahid cannot get support from the non-Umno MPs while most Umno MPs want to wait until after the party election before holding the 15th general election or PRU15.

The Umno MPs know that many of them are going to be dropped as candidates in PRU15. Zahid is going to embark on house-cleaning and will get rid of all those who are not on the same page with him. And many are NOT on the same page as Zahid (and today Zahid called them traitors who need to be executed).

If the Umno MPs support the dissolution of parliament, they will just be handing Zahid a knife to cut their throats. So it is suicide to allow Zahid to dissolve parliament to make way for PRU15 when that would grant Zahid carte blanche to decide who lives and who dies.

The logical and safe thing would be to replace Zahid with a new party president, in this case prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, so that they are not dropped as candidates in PRU15. Hence PRU15 needs to be delayed and held only after the Umno party elections.

Zahid knows it is tough to sway the MPs to his side. So he is using the Umno annual general assembly or PAU to whip the Umno delegates into a frenzy. He wants to create the perception that this is the wish of 3.5 million Umno members. But a few screaming mat rempit or rent-a-crowd do not represent 3.5 million Umno members.

The only way to know whether the majority in Umno support Zahid would be to hold the party election and see who the party chooses as the new Umno president. But Zahid is scared to do that because Ismail Sabri might win the presidency instead.
