Zahid offered me Umno presidency, claims Muhyiddin

Muhyiddin Yassin tonight claimed that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had offered him the post in a bid to woo the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman back to his former party.

(FMT) – The former prime minister said Zahid did so while he was still in office.

“Zahid came to meet me and asked me to return to Umno. ‘I will hand over the presidency to you’, he told me,” Muhyiddin said at a ceramah tonight.

“But if you were to ask Zahid, he would say I am lying.”

According to Muhyiddin, he turned down the offer immediately.

He went on to claim that Zahid’s offer was made with the party’s blessings.

Muhyiddin said he felt that it was better to cooperate with PAS instead.

The Bersatu president’s allegation against Zahid tonight is the latest levelled at the former deputy prime minister.

Muhyiddin recently claimed that Zahid met him with a request to intervene in his court case and said he had the evidence to prove such a meeting took place.

However, he was reported to have said he ignored the request as he did not want to interfere in judicial affairs.

Zahid has since said he was prepared to take a religious oath to deny the allegation by Muhyiddin.
