Now, Kit Siang’s aide apologises to Najib

(FMT) – An aide to DAP’s Lim Kit Siang has apologised to Najib Razak for claiming the former prime minister had posted on Facebook “Selamat Jalan?” (“Farewell?”) after news of Dr Mahathir Mohamad being admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) broke.

Mahathir’s press secretary Adam Mukhriz Mohd Muhayeddin had initially tweeted a screenshot of Najib’s alleged posting. However, the screenshot was fake and Adam has since deleted his tweet.

Today, Syahredzan Johan, who is Lim’s political secretary became the second person to apologise to Najib for reacting to this fake news. Yesterday, Kangar MP Noor Amin Ahmad apologised to Najib for reposting the tweet. He subsequently deleted the post after Najib threatened to sue him.

Syahredzan had similarly retweeted Adam’s screenshot, referring to it as “Low class”. However, he deleted it soon after. Najib, however, had taken a screenshot of Syahredzan’s tweet and questioned him about it.

“I commented on it. I have deleted the comment and my apologies to you for thinking that it was true,” Syahredzan replied to Najib today.

Yesterday, Najib said he would not only sue Amin if he did not take down the post and apologise, but also Mahathir’s aide because the Kangar MP had claimed he was quoting Adam’s tweet.

“It is hard to believe that when Atuk (Mahathir) is sick, they are making such slanderous comments in the name of politics,” Najib said.
