Anwar claims opposition has numbers, PN govt has fallen

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim today said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had lost his majority, adding he had been informed that ministers had applied to switch their support.

(Malaysia Now) – “Muhyiddin as prime minister has fallen today,” the PKR leader told MPs from his Pakatan Harapan coalition as well as other opposition parties gathered at Dataran Merdeka.

“Together with the 107 MPs here, the government has been toppled,” Anwar said.

Anwar had made similar claims in September last year, when he declared that he had a “formidable” majority.

The MPs decided to hold a protest at Dataran Merdeka today following the health directive that the special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat be suspended due to the detection of Covid-19 cases in the Parliament vicinity.

Party chiefs took turns to speak with the main theme of urging Muhyiddin to step down.

Also present was Dr Mahathir Mohamad who spoke after Anwar, the first time the pair had made a joint public appearance since their falling out last year.
