Anwar’s backdoor no-confidence motion falls flat

It looks like Muhyiddin is one step ahead of his adversaries and they never saw this one coming. Meanwhile, the first day of Parliament was spent shouting and screaming with really nothing much about the rakyat’s interest and welfare discussed. This way, five days will pass with nothing really achieved.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Anwar Ibrahim’s plan was to pass a backdoor no-confidence motion in Parliament today. And the way it would be done was to block or reject the motion for the declaration of the Emergency.

Then Parliament was told that the Emergency had already ended on 21st July 2021 and that all the emergency laws have also been revoked.

This upset Anwar because his backdoor no-confidence motion rested on rejecting the Emergency. But if there is no longer any Emergency, then there is nothing to reject.

If Anwar can get majority support in rejecting the Emergency, then he can go running to Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong to inform His Majesty that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has lost the confidence of the majority of the Members of the House.

But now that cannot happen. So it is back to the drawing board to figure out what else can be blocked or rejected as a platform for a backdoor vote of no confidence against the government.

It looks like Muhyiddin is one step ahead of his adversaries and they never saw this one coming. Meanwhile, the first day of Parliament was spent shouting and screaming with really nothing much about the rakyat’s interest and welfare discussed. This way, five days will pass with nothing really achieved.
