Ask your ministers, not PM, to resign first, MIC chief tells Zahid

(FMT) – Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should tell party Cabinet members to resign from their posts before asking Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to step down, says MIC president S Vigneswaran.

Vigneswaran said he believed Umno’s push for Muhyiddin’s resignation would not succeed as none of the Barisan Nasional government ministers had agreed to let go of their posts.

“We will see what action Umno takes against its MPs who disagree with the Supreme Council’s decision,” he told FMT.

At its Supreme Council meeting last night, Umno officially withdrew its support for Muhyiddin as the prime minister.

Zahid also called for Muhyiddin to step down, saying the Perikatan Nasional-led government had failed to fulfil the two requirements the party had set to justify support for the administration.

Vigneswaran said Zahid’s demands were unclear and lacked direction.

“Umno is a mature party. When they were in power, the opposition demanded their prime minister to resign many times, but they did nothing because they knew it was just a demand,” he said.

MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon said his party will continue to support the PN administration until the next general election.

“Unless BN makes a new, official decision, MCA will continue to support PN till the next election, in line with BN’s decision before this,” he told FMT.
