Pro-Anwar Ibrahim Zambry Kadir is now BN Sec-Gen

(FMT) – Former Perak menteri besar Zambry Abd Kadir has been appointed as Barisan Nasional’s new secretary-general, becoming the third person to hold the post this year.

Zambry replaces Ahmad Maslan who took over from Annuar Musa who, in turn, was sacked in January, Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin has confirmed.

According to another source, the appointment was announced at the coalition’s supreme council meeting which was held online.

On Jan 5, Annuar – who was accused of being too cozy with Bersatu – was removed as both BN secretary-general and Muafakat Nasional secretary-general.

He was replaced by Ahmad who is also Umno’s secretary-general.

Zambry is a former Perak Umno chief and served as the menteri besar from 2009 to 2018.

In August last year, he was named as Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd chairman.

In a statement, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also announced that Perlis menteri besar Azlan Man has been appointed as the coalition’s chief in the northern state.

Azlan takes over from Shahidan Kassim who was also removed as state Umno chief on April 24. Like Annuar, Shahidan is seen to be Bersatu-friendly

Zahid said BN agreed to strengthen its machinery to help register more people, especially senior citizens, the differently abled and those in rural areas for the vaccination exercise.
