(The Mole) – The proposal of a company to manage the government’s foreign visa system was rejected when Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein was home minister but accepted by his successor Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi in 2013.

Azman Azra Abdul Rahman, a former assistant secretary with the Immigration Department, also testified that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had told Zahid to go ahead.

The company in question, Ultra Kirana Sdn. Bhd, had sent a letter to Najib in May 2013, after which the latter sent a note to Zahid to say the project must proceed.

UKSB mooted the system vide a letter to Hishammuddin in 2010 and was awarded the contract from November 2013 to October 2019.
