Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and company have been undermining the Perikatan Nasional government, attempting all sorts of tricks just to get back to power.

Does he really do not know or understand that he is actually making the countryโ€™s present situations more uncertain and unpredictable in almost all aspects, socially, politically and economically?

The ultimatum and โ€œthreatsโ€ he issued at the just-concluded Umno general assembly against the government, were clearly made without considering the on-going difficult situation we are in now, without regard to the lives and livelihoods of the people and our economy which have been badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

His words that Umno had gone a step further and that it could sever ties with the ruling coalition at any time it deems fit, smacked arrogance and overbearing, presumptuous superiority.

Does he, indeed, have the peopleโ€™s problems in mind when he issued such an ultimatum? Do his threats in anyway, show he cares for the people and the country, their hardships and all?

As a citizen of this beloved country of mine, I would like to think that as a veteran politician and a leader of the biggest Malay-based party, he would come up with some concrete statements to show that he and his party were with the present government in easing their sufferings due to the pandemic but all were on severing ties with the ruling party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

While he was said to have called on Barisan Nasional coalition party MCA to fulfil their duty in line with the trust placed on them by the people, Zahid, on the other hand, told Umno delegates that the party would never support Bersatu, of course, in this respect the government, which he accused of harbouring ill-intentions to destroy Umno.

Zahid seems to be overly confident that Umno would win in the next general election, without having to cooperate with Bersatu and the rest of other political parties.

He sounded so determined and pompous when he said that Umno would only be open to other parties after the general election when โ€œwe are dominant.โ€

He was also quoted as saying that Umno will stick with Barisan Nasional only and close the door on Bersatu, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the DAP on any electoral pact.

โ€œIf at all (there are discussions), we do it after the general election when we are dominant,โ€ he was quoted as saying. Lest we forget, it was him who worked behind the curtains with Anwar over the letters that allegedly had been handed over to the King, informing the latter that Umno Members of Parliament were backing Anwar en bloc to replace prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin sometime in October last year.

Subsequently, Umno issued a denial but ousted BN secretary-general, Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who made an explosive claim later, said that Zahid did send the letter to the King, supporting Anwar to be prime minister. No wonder, Annuar has been labelled the โ€œparasiteโ€ by Zahid who said during the general assembly that parasites in Umno refused to follow the partyโ€™s decision and were still trying to muster support for Bersatu.

Zahid surely did not mince his words when he said there would be no cooperation with Anwar.

But with all these telling, can he be trusted in the first place? And yesterday, Zahid said 124 divisions wanted a break-up with Bersatu, instead of 147 as alleged by Umno earlier this month.

The figures continue changing, to his whims? The cracks within the party seems pretty obvious but as expected, Zahid will just dismiss it.

Seems that the reality of the pandemic – the hovering 4-digit cases every day and the increase in the number of deaths โ€“ is of no concern to him and other politicians.

It has failed to bring them to realign to new political dimension and understanding in serving the purpose of its establishment as well as the people. He is creating more uncertainties for this country, this is for sure.
