Razaleigh supporters behind fake memo, says Raja Petra Kamarudin
(FMT) – Supporters of Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah have been accused of circulating a fake memorandum on PPBM’s plans as part of a “now or never” campaign for Razaleigh to replace Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.
Political blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin said the fake memo was part of a campaign by Razaleigh (who is known as Ku Li) supporters, or “Team Ku Li”, to undermine Muhyiddin, who is PPBM president and head of the ruling Perikatan Nasional coalition.
In a blog posting today, Raja Petra said Team Ku Li had launched their campaign with the circulation of the so-called confidential memo which was purportedly about a PPBM Supreme Council meeting. PPBM secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said however it was fake and a police report would be lodged to track down the culprits.
However, Raja Petra said there would be “more fake news, psywar and black ops over the next few weeks. The Team Ku Li operatives have a few more tricks up their sleeves. Their success rests on chaos and turmoil in Perikatan Nasional”.
Relations between Umno and PPBM have come to a head after months of dissatisfaction, and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has written to inform Muhyiddin that Umno would continue to support his Perikatan Nasional government only until the next general election.
Raja Petra named former Umno member Tamrin Abdul Ghafar as the head of Team Ku Li, and said Tamrin had been campaigning for the past 35 years for Razaleigh to become prime minister. He said Tamrin wanted Muhyiddin to be ousted and replaced with Razaleigh.
“Ku Li made so many attempts over the last 35-40 years to become Malaysia’s prime minister. Ku Li fought Musa Hitam. He fought Dr Mahathir (Mohamad). He fought Abdullah (Ahmad) Badawi. He fought Najib Razak. And now he is fighting Muhyiddin,” said Raja Petra.
“He failed in 1987, 1990, 1995, 1998, 2006, and 2015. This is Ku Li’s last chance. If he cannot oust Muhyiddin now and take over as prime minister, then it is never going to happen. It’s now or never.”
He said Razaleigh’s supporters were “working overtime to try to cause a rift between Umno and PPBM” and if Umno and PPBM could not reconcile their differences before the general election “then they will need a ‘dark horse’ mutually acceptable to both warring factions. And this dark horse is going to be Ku Li, or at least he hopes so”.
