Umno’s final act of self-destruction

And, suddenly, the relevance of Umno is put to question. Was not Umno the benteng perjuangan against DAP, PKR and Pakatan Harapan, who posed a clear and present danger to the Malays, Islam, Bahasa Malaysia and the Raja-Raja Melayu? How then can Umno oust the “Malay” government and replace it with a DAP-led government?

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

It really does not matter why. The reason is not important. It is the act that matters. And treason will always be treason no matter for what reason the treasonous act was committed.

That is the rule of war. And politics is war. Soldiers are taught, yours is not to reason why, yours is to do or die. Hence, to question the command or orders, or to go against and act opposite to the command or orders, is considered an act of mutiny.

And in war, mutiny attracts the death penalty. You are executed on the battlefield.

The punishment for mutiny or treason

That now raises the question of collaborating with the enemy or secretly working with or for the enemy. What then?

Of course, there are reasons, maybe even valid reasons, as to why Najib Tun Razak and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi sent that letter to His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong swearing support for Anwar Ibrahim to take over as Malaysia’s ninth Prime Minister or PM9.

But do they not say the road to hell is paved with good intentions? The intentions may have been noble. Nevertheless, you are still on the road to hell. Good intentions cannot turn hell into heaven.

Umno may have committed the final act of self-destruction after the GE14 fiasco

And this is the dilemma facing Umno. After 63 years in power (1955-2018) Umno had a rude awakening when it got kicked out of Putrajaya and from a number of states. Nobody on both sides of the political divide saw that coming. In fact, the Special Branch had assured Najib that Barisan Nasional was going to win 135-140 Parliament seats.

But Umno got defeated on the battlefield. And the aftermath was devastating. There was a witch-hunt and many heads rolled. You may be aware of the cases against Najib, Zahid and a handful of other Umno leaders. Actually, there are hundreds of other cases, which very few know about, because they were quietly and quickly settled out of court.

So, there are reasons, maybe even valid reasons, as to why Najib and Zahid sent that letter to the Agong swearing support for Anwar to take over as PM9. But that is not really important because, in war, reasons do not matter. Yours is not to reason why, yours is to do or die. Treason is still treason no matter the reason why the treasonous act was committed.

The launching of Umno on the steps of the Johor Palace in 1946 had a purpose, which may no longer exist

Umno was not just fighting a war. Umno was fighting for survival. Umno was struggling to try to prove it is still relevant for the future.

And Umno did not really have much to ‘sell’. It could not dispel the allegations of abuse of power, corruption, money-politics, politics of warlords, warlords becoming millionaires, and millionaires becoming multi-millionaires or billionaires, etc. All Umno had to sell was its perjuangan.

Malays were urged to close one eye, or even close both eyes, to Umno’s transgressions and misconduct for the sake of the perjuangan. The perjuangan is more important and must rise above whatever wrongdoings Umno may have committed. The end has to justify the means: matlamat perlu menghalalkan cara.

So, yes, rob the banks if need be, as long as you are Robin Hood and you are merely robbing the rich to feed the poor. After all, was not Robin Hood the hero and not the villain?

Does Umno now back DAP to take over the government by proxy?

So, who is the villain then? The villain is DAP, PKR and Pakatan Harapan. By hook or by crook, and by any and all means possible, this villain must be defeated.

DAP, PKR and Pakatan Harapan are enemies of the Malays, Islam, Bahasa Malaysia and the Raja-Raja Melayu. First, they took Singapore from the Malays. Then they took Penang. And now they want to take the rest of Malaysia and turn the whole country into a secular republic where Islam is no longer paramount and beer festivals and transgender beauty pageants are state-sponsored.

Yes, a splendid narrative indeed. Splendid enough to justify the continued support for Umno in spite of all its shortcomings. Do not worry about what is wrong with Umno. Focus on Umno’s perjuangan for the Malays, Islam, Bahasa Malaysia and the Raja-Raja Melayu and tolerate the shortcomings.

DAP, PKR and Pakatan Harapan pose clear and present danger to the Malays, Islam, Bahasa Malaysia and the Raja-Raja Melayu. Without Umno as the benteng perjuangan against DAP, PKR and Pakatan Harapan, the Malays, Islam, Bahasa Malaysia and the Raja-Raja Melayu would be wiped out.

A secret pact revealed that raises the question of Umno’s continued relevance

And, suddenly, they discover that Umno has entered into a secret pact with DAP, PKR and Pakatan Harapan to topple the PPBM-PAS-BN government and replace it with a DAP-led government and replace Muhyiddin Yassin with a DAP proxy Prime Minister.

And, suddenly, as well, the relevance of Umno is put to question.

That is the dilemma Umno is now facing — how to justify its continued relevance? Umno may not be perfect — in fact, it is far from perfect — but it had a noble reason to continue to exist. It was the benteng against DAP, PKR and Pakatan Harapan. But now it has entered into a secret pact with the enemy. Umno has sold out. Umno has committed treason. The rule of war says Umno has to be executed on the battlefield.

So, what now?
