PAS says it won’t be a part of new Perak government

(FMT) – PAS has declared it will not be part of the new Perak government that would be formed after Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost the confidence of the state assembly earlier today.

In a statement, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said all three of the party’s assemblymen had supported Faizal during the motion today.

“PAS will continue to function as usual at the state and national level,” he said.

Faizal lost the confidence of the Perak state assembly after 48 members voted against a motion of confidence in him tabled today. There were 10 votes in support of Faizal and one spoilt vote.

The motion had been submitted by Pengkalan Baru assemblyman Abdul Manaf Hashim, who is from Umno.

In October, FMT had reported that the Perak government was at risk of collapsing as a result of discontent among state Umno leaders regarding their coalition partner, PPBM.

Faizal is expected to meet the Perak Sultan this evening to pave the way for his successor.
