Be thankful Umno is part of federal govt, Annuar reminds squabbling leaders

(FMT) – Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Annuar Musa said his “Umno soul” is not dead as implied by an Johor Umno leader and he will continue fighting for the unity of the Malays and Bumiputeras, which is a key founding objective of the party.

Reminding Johor Umno deputy chairman Nur Jazlan Mohamed that everyone will “die” one day, he said he would not stray from this objective.

Yesterday, Nur Jazlan described Annuar as a “politically dead figure” in Umno’s struggle when commenting on the latter’s statement that Umno should snap out of its superiority complex.

The Federal Territories minister said certain Umno leaders had forgotten that the party lost the general election in 2018. Because of this, he said, they had no right to question the treatment Umno received in Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s Cabinet.

Annuar said quarrels among some Umno leaders involved differences in personality and opinion but he reminded them that these should not divide the party.

“We should be thankful to God that we are back at the helm in the Putrajaya administration. But remember that God’s grace can be lost at any time.

“If you want to fire me, want to remove me as a minister, it does not matter. I will be more disturbed if I am considered a bootlicker who is afraid of losing my position,” he said.

In politics, he said there were no eternal enemies or friends, adding that if Umno could get along with MIC, MCA and PAS, he did not see why it could not cooperate with PPBM.

“There is no problem if we are criticised, reprimanded or have different opinions. To me, that should be welcomed. And if you become dead politically, it doesn’t matter. Either way, we will die too, but the struggle must live on,” he said.
