No rift among Amanah MPs, we support Anwar, says Khalid
(FMT) – Amanah leader Khalid Samad said there are no rifts among members of the party, as all Amanah MPs have signed a statutory declaration (SD) in support of Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.
The Amanah communications director was responding to a FMT report saying there was growing tension in the party between those supporting Dr Mahathir Mohamad and those who back Anwar to lead the country.
A party insider had told FMT that Amanah’s grassroots were torn at times between their leaders who have different preferences for a national leader.
“The report that Amanah is divided is not accurate and should be corrected,” Khalid said at a press conference at the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said outsiders had attempted to pit the party’s members against one another, adding that it was unfair to do so.
Khalid also said Amanah did not agree on condemning or attacking other party leaders, such as Pejuang’s pro-tem chairman Mahathir and Warisan president Shafie Apdal.
Instead, he said, the party would work on getting support from Mahathir and Shafie so they could stand together as one on Nov 25, when they vote on the 2021 budget.
“We assume all opposition leaders are on the same boat. There needs to be unity among the opposition in the effort to bring down the Perikatan Nasional government,” he said.
