Is DAP bluffing or just ignorant?

DAP is rewriting history. What happened back in 2008 and 2009 is not as how DAP is spinning it. DAP wants to make it look like Anwar was the reason the PM resigned. It was not. The reason Pak Lah resigned was because Mahathir left Umno and promised to return to Umno only after Pak Lah resigns.

DAP is rewriting the narrative on why Pak Lah resigned in 2009

Anwar’s claim of forming government weakens Muhyiddin, says DAP,” said FMT’s headlines today. The news item went on to say:

A former DAP minister said today irrespective of whether Anwar Ibrahim has the majority to form a new government, the PKR president’s claim has weakened the prime minister.

Liew Chin Tong cited a similar claim made by Anwar in 2008, which he said undermined then prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

He said Anwar’s claim led Abdullah’s rivals, former prime minister Najib Razak and Muhyiddin Yassin, to confront him and demand he cede the finance ministry portfolio to Najib.

“A week later, Najib and Muhyiddin pressed Abdullah again, this time forcing him to announce his retirement, effective the following year,” he said in an opinion piece published in the South China Morning Post today. (READ MORE HERE)

DAP is rewriting the narrative to give an impression that it does not matter whether Anwar really does have 121 (or 132) Members of Parliament with him or not. The fact that Anwar claims he does is enough to weaken Muhyiddin and bring about his downfall.

DAP then cited the “16 September” attempted coup by Anwar in 2008, which DAP claims brought about Pak Lah’s downfall.

Without John Soh’s RM750 million, Anwar could not buy over the 30 BN MPs for his “16 September” coup

That is a lie. Anwar’s “16 September” coup, where 30 Barisan Nasional MPs were supposed to cross over, actually failed. The Chinese tycoon who was supposed to come out with the RM750 million to buy over the 30 MPs refused to do so because Anwar did not really have 30 BN MPs with him.

Anwar had at most only 10 or 12 MPs and this was not enough. It had to be either 30 or nothing. And since Anwar could not get his 30 MPs, the Chinese tycoon backed out from funding Anwar the RM750 million he required.

It is true that Pak Lah was ousted. But Pak Lah fell not because of Anwar or his “16 September” attempted coup. Pak Lah fell because Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned from Umno.

It was Mahathir, not Anwar, who forced Pak Lah out in 2009

Mahathir resigned from Umno and said he would not re-join Umno unless Pak Lah resigns. Only then would Mahathir return to Umno.

Umno then advised Pak Lah to resign so that Mahathir can be pacified and be pujuk to re-join Umno. Pak Lah then sought the advice of the Special Branch who told Pak Lah if he did not resign then Umno will push him out.

Because of the advice of the Special Branch, who were, of course, aligned to Mahathir, Pak Lah resigned.
