PKR sues Zuraida for RM10 mil for quitting party
(FMT) – PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has filed a suit on behalf of his party claiming RM10 million from former vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin.
The suit is pursuant to a bond in which Zuraida agreed to pay the party RM10 million in the event she resigns from the party, joins another political party or becomes an independent elected representative.
PKR also plans to sue 22 other elected representatives who defected.
In a statement, PKR treasurer-general Lee Chean Chung said the RM10 million payable to the party was for the use of its name, logo and other items when contesting in the 2018 general election.
“Zuraida agreed to pay PKR the sum of RM10 million in the event she resigns from the party or joins any other political party or be an independent,” he said.
He said by virtue of her not formally resigning as a PKR member, the party terminated her membership on Feb 24, the same day she and 10 other PKR MPs decided to leave.
Lee said Zuraida had been served a letter of demand on Aug 7 but she failed to respond, resulting in the legal suit against her filed last Monday. The suit names Saifuddin as plaintiff, representing the party.
He said the party will file similar suits against other elected representatives who contested under the PKR banner but who defected.
