Guan Eng, like Najib Razak, is a victim of a witch hunt, says DAP MP
(FMT) – Three-term Klang MP Charles Santiago said today former finance minister Lim Guan Eng is clearly a victim of selective prosecution aimed at damaging DAP’s image and destroying Pakatan Harapan.
He said Lim’s overnight “incarceration” at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) building was in bad faith and was done to keep a lid on dissent.
“Guan Eng’s family has also been targeted with the arrest of his wife over allegations of abuse of power and money laundering,” he said in a statement.
“This is a dangerous game to play. It reeks of a witch hunt.”
“There was not a whiff of scandal in the public domain even after he was made the finance minister.
“Guan Eng and Penang state exco members were not involved in negotiations to award the tender to Consortium Zenith Construction.
“And the state government hasn’t paid a single sen towards the tunnel project which is valued at RM6.3 billion,” he added.
Meanwhile, Penang Deputy Chief Minister P Ramasamy asked how Lim could be charged for soliciting bribes from the undersea tunnel project when the project, which is part of the Penang Master Transport plan, had not even started.
“The feasibility study has not been completed. Most importantly, the project was awarded on the basis of an open tender and to date, not a sen has been spent on the project.
“So, where is the corruption?” he asked.
