MB: RM260.14 mln spent to cushion Covid-19 impact

The Selangor government has disbursed RM260.14 million for the state’s two economic stimulus package, Selangor Cares Package, which had benefitted 3.5 million people or 54 per cent of the Selangor population.

(Selangor Journal) – Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said under the first phase of the package, financial aid was given out to those affected by the pandemic as well as the frontliners during the early stage of the movement control order (MCO), which was enforced nationwide on March 18.

“In the second phase, additional efforts to address the social and economic impacts include the Selangor Agro Market, e-Kitchen, and Selangor Advance to adapt to the new normal,” said Amirudin when tabling the Selangor economic recovery package during the State Legislative Assembly sitting today.

As for the third phase, Amirudin said the plan was formulated to stimulate the recovery of the state economy.

He said the package, themed “Strengthening People’s Resilience, Stimulating State Prosperity”, emphasises on three aspects which are food security, economic sustainability and capacity building.

“The total economic value of this plan is RM55.85 billion,” he said.

The state government had on March 20 announced a RM127.78 million allocation for the first phase of the stimulus package and an additional RM272.5 million in the second phase, the Selangor Cares Package 2.0, which was revealed on April 1.

This brings the total amount allocated to cushioning the economic impact of Covid-19 to RM400 million.
