Tok Mat’s loud and clear message

Raja Sara Petra

If there was any confusion as to what Umno’s agenda is, Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan’s reply to DAP’s Ong Kian Ming clears up that confusion (READ HERE: https://www.malaysia-today.net/2020/04/25/the-mat-hasan-ong-kian-ming-debate/)

Actually, in the first place there should not have been any confusion. This confusion comes about only when people do not understand the difference between coalition, cooperation, electoral pact, and so on.

Tok Mat did not mince his words and he delivered Umno’s mission and vision statement in a clear and crisp manner, not in a long-winded pusing-pusing way like how the Pakatan Harapan people talk. Umno’s focus is Muafakat Nasional while Perikatan Nasional merely serves the current political situation. Umno’s future is with PAS and any cooperation with another party is merely to check the DAP-led Pakatan Harapan.

A strategic alliance with PAS meets the criteria of one plus one equals three. It is a win-win situation because it brings confidence to the Malay-Muslim voter-base that finally a true perpaduan ummah has been achieved. The positives outweigh the negatives by far, in the event there may be any negatives in such an alliance.

Let us not forget that Pakatan Harapan garnered only 5.5 million votes in GE14 while Barisan Nasional and PAS combined garnered 6.1 million votes. And Umno and PAS together won 4.5 million votes versus Pribumi and Amanah that won just 1.3 million votes. Even a novice can see that the Malay votes determine which party or coalition will form the government.

And this is what DAP is afraid of, the reason for their negative comments and doomsday predictions on Umno. They are worried if Muafakat Nasional lasts right up to the next general election then Pakatan Harapan is never going to get back into power. And they have reason to be worried because that is precisely what is going to happen.
