MCO Day 26: Almost 1,500 arrests made for non-compliance, majority fined RM1k

(Bernama) – Police have made close to 1,500 arrests on the 26th day of the movement control order, the majority of them being asked to pay the RM1,000 compound, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said that on Sunday (April 12), authorities arrested 1,471 people for violating the MCO, of which 949 were issued with the compound, 503 remanded and 19 released on bail.

The same day also saw enforcement personnel making 784 roadblocks nationwide, with 358,593 vehicles checked.

“The number of arrests have been high of late, because authorities are no longer in advising or warning mode.

“Now, those who violate the MCO will be taken action against,” he said on Monday (April 13).

The cumulative figure of arrests since the MCO was enforced on March 18 is 8,647 individuals with 3,105 compounds issued.

On disinfection exercises, Ismail Sabri said that to date, 1,527 operations have been conducted at 89 zones, including 26 red zones.

On Sunday, the Housing and Local Government Ministry conducted 114 disinfection exercises at 43 zones in 12 states, including 33 in Johor and 19 in Pahang.

Ismail Sabri also said authorities had disinfected 26 multi-use areas at low and medium low housing areas located in red zones in Selangor.
