PKR leaders skipping congress to attend any parallel meeting will be sacked, warns Anwar

(FMT) – PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has warned party leaders they face the sack if they attend any parallel gathering during the PKR National Congress this weekend.

However, he added, so far there was no sign of any such gathering being planned.

“There are minor attempts (for a parallel congress). I want to inform that as of three days ago, 83% of party representatives have promised to attend (the congress) in Melaka.

“Even if there is any (parallel congress or gathering), only 10% (may be attending). I hope there will not be any (gathering). If there is, any party leader who attends it will be sacked,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Parliament lobby.

There were rumours that a rival meeting would he held, to be officiated by PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, in Kuala Lumpur following a rift over who was to open the PKR Youth Congress being held today.

However, several leaders, including Azmin himself, had denied that a rival congress was being planned. Azmin shut down the rumours yesterday by confirming he would attend the national congress in Melaka. His announcement followed a special political bureau meeting which he and Anwar attended.

Anwar reminded leaders that, “sabotaging the national congress is a big offence”.
