MCA’s Wee has our support, says PAS

(FMT) – PAS has expressed support for Barisan Nasional’s decision to field MCA’s Wee Jeck Seng for the Tanjung Piai polls, the first by-election since the party signed a historic charter with Umno last month.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said party president Abdul Hadi Awang also backs the decision, adding that senior party leaders would be present during nomination day on Saturday to show support for BN.

“The support is also in line with the agreement signed between Umno and PAS on Sept 14,” Takiyuddin said.

In the 2018 general election, Wee lost the seat to PPBM’s Md Farid Md Rafik by a 524-vote margin. The seat was left vacant by Farid’s death on Sept 21.

Pakatan Harapan will be fielding PPBM’s Tanjung Piai division chief Karmaine Sardini, 66, while a third candidate will be Gerakan deputy secretary-general Wendy Subramaniam.
