Why Sunnis fear the Shias

Hence why say Shias, Wahhabis, Qadianis, Ahmadis, etc., do not have akidah? Sunni Muslims of the Shafi’i school or sect also do not have akidah. The minute you make any decision or take any action that has nothing to do kerana Allah, your akidah disappears. And this would be 99% of the Melayu who berbuih mulut cakap pasal Islam tapi buat tak serupa cakap.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The Abrahamic faiths have always been in competition with one another, unlike the Hindus and Buddhists who very much leave each other alone and do not infringe each other’s territory (in that sense Hinduism and Buddhism are more peaceful than the Abrahamic faiths because they live and let live).

The Jews, Christians and Muslims (plus the thousands of sub-branches of those three religions — yes, thousands) all accept Abraham as the father or founder of their religions (which is why they are called Abrahamic faiths). But from thereon they branch out and no longer follow the same path.

The Jews are still waiting for the saviour. The Christians say the saviour has already come and died to save humankind. The Muslims say Jesus is not the saviour and did not die and that Muhammad is the Prophet who will save you if you accept him as the final Prophet of God.

If this sounds confusing, look at it as Pakatan Harapan. PKR, DAP, PPBM and PAN all acknowledge they are in Pakatan. But then they disagree on who should be the Prime Minister. Some want Dr Mahathir Mohamad, some want Anwar Ibrahim, and some want Azmin Ali. So, they fight amongst themselves about who should be Prime Minister although all are in Pakatan.

Muslims fight amongst themselves in the competition for followers much like political parties

Then, of course, in this internal fight, they bad mouth one another and try to sabotage one another. The same with the Pakatan of the three Abrahamic faiths. The Jews, Christians and Muslims will condemn one another plus will have internal fights as well.

The arrest and crucifixion of Jesus (if it did happen) was due to internal differences amongst the Jews. Jesus condemned the Jewish hierarchy and considered them as deviants who had strayed from true Judaism. So, they retaliated against Jesus in what was basically a political power struggle and nothing much to do with religion.

Then, 300 years later, the Jewish sect of the Jesus Movement, which had grown into what today we call Christianity, was embroiled in an internal power struggle. The Roman Emperor, Constantine, who was NOT a Christian, tried to end this dispute amongst hundreds of different branches or sects of Christianity by merging them all into one, which today we recognise as Catholicism.

The Crusades killed more fellow-Christians than Muslims

Constantine was not a Christian but for political reasons he needed to unite everyone. And, of course, he needed everyone united under him. And those who refused to ‘unite’ under him or under his version of Christianity were exterminated. And many ran away to the Arabian Peninsula for safety where 300 years later Islam was born.

Hence the creation of the Jesus Movement, which later became Christianity, and then the creation of the new Christianity, which we now know as Catholicism, were all born out of political differences and the struggle for power. They had nothing to do with God. But probably 99% of the Jews and Christians do not know this because they practice their religious beliefs like a trained animal, much like the Muslims do.

Islam is NOT just a religious doctrine. Islam, too, is a political movement. And Islam started life as a struggle for the hearts and minds of the people. That is why under Islam you cannot have a secular system where you separate religion from politics. This was not what Prophet Muhammad taught or did.

The Wahhabi uprising in Arabia 100 years ago resulted in the deaths of thousands of non-Wahhabi Muslims but non-Muslims were spared

So, all three Abrahamic faiths are about politics and competition. They compete with each other. Plus, they compete amongst themselves. Judaism and Christianity are seen as competitors to Islam. So, Muslims will not allow Jews and Christians to preach to Muslims. Then the different sects within Islam are also seen as competitors with one another. Hence Malay Muslims who are Sunni-Shafi’i Muslims are opposed to Shias, Wahhabis, Qadianis, Ahmadis, etc.

The scholars tell us that to be regarded as a Muslim you must accept Allah as God, Muhammad as the final Prophet of God, the Qur’an as the Book of God, plus the Hadith and Sunnah of the Prophet. If you accept all these then you are a Muslim.

Malays, however, say that is not enough. To be a Muslim you must also be a Sunni from the Shafi’i school. Is that what Prophet Muhammad said? No, that is what Malays say.

In Malaysia, anyone who does not follow Sunni-Shafi’i Islam will get arrested

Malays also say the akidah of the non-Sunni-Shafi’i is defective. In what way is it defective? Have they ever explained? In fact, if you were to do a post-mortem of most Muslims of any sect, very few have akidah. The first requirement of akidah is the way of Allah.

Now, show me one Malay who does things for Allah. They all do things for personal gain. So, in essence, no one has any akidah. If you really had akidah you would not want to be a politician, take bank loans, work for a salary, etc.
