Today, India and Pakistan are on the brink of yet another of many wars and there are already cross-border shootings that have resulted in a number of deaths. Hence, the Hindu Indian-Muslim Indian hatred has become worse. And that is the reason why the Hindu Indians hate Dr Zakir Naik. This is actually an Indian thing, not a Malay thing. And this is not going to end until the Malaysian government deports Zakir Naik back to India so that he can be stuffed into an Indian jail.

I remember meeting the Director of Pusat Islam back in the 1990s regarding placing a copy of the English language Qur’an in every hotel room in Malaysia. We wanted a copy of the English translation of the Qur’an placed beside the Gideon’s Bible, which most hotel rooms have.
Some of you may have seen these Qur’ans alongside the Gideons Bible in hotel rooms in Malaysia. Incidentally, the person who was printing the Qur’ans, worth millions of ringgit, was Latheefa Koya’s father, Koya Kutty.

In my meeting with the Director, the conversation moved to the problems between Hindus and Muslims in Malaysia. This was not a nationwide problem but isolated to a few places such as Penang (the temple bell incident), certain parts of Selangor (such as Kerling where in 1978 Hindu Indians killed Muslim Indians), etc. But it appeared serious nevertheless.
The Director told me that the Hindu-Muslim conflict was not between Malays and Indians but between Indians themselves — Hindu Indians and Muslim Indians (sometimes referred to as Mamak).
According to police investigations, the Hindu Indians-Muslim Indians conflict in Malaysia is a spill-over of the Hindu Indians-Muslim Indians conflict in India (which resulted in the Partition in 1947 following more than one million deaths).

The Hindu Indians and Muslim Indians have been fighting each other since 1947 and are still fighting until today even in Malaysia
This is like back in the 1800s when Selangor, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Singapore, etc., suffered a problem of triad wars between different groups of Chinese. These were actually clan wars between the Chinese who had already been fighting one another back in China and who brought their animosity to Malaya to continue to fight.
So, this is also what the Hindu Indians and Muslim Indians are doing in Malaysia, said the Director. Back in India, they are killing one another. And they have brought this hatred of one another to Malaysia.
In places, say, like Kelantan, there is no Hindu-Muslim problem because the Muslims are Malays, not Indians. In fact, when Tok Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat became the Menteri Besar in 1990, the first thing he did was to summon the Hindus for a meeting and offered them approval to build their temple. The Hindus had for years wanted approval to build their temple but managed to get it only when Nik Aziz took over as Menteri Besar.

Until today, the Malays and Indians in Kelantan get along very well, as do the Muslims and Buddhists as well. In fact, the biggest Thai Buddhist temple is in Kelantan.
