Shut up, PKR MP tells Azmin for urging Dr M to stay on
(FMT) – A PKR MP has reacted angrily to Mohamed Azmin Ali’s statement urging Dr Mahathir Mohamad to serve the full five-year mandate as prime minister, saying it is up to party boss Anwar Ibrahim to sort succession matters on the top post between them.
Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid said Azmin and other “outsiders” are not part of the pre-election arrangement for Anwar to take over from Mahathir.
“So they should shut up and Azmin should focus on his job and focus on the economy,” he told FMT when commenting on Azmin’s statement today.
“Don’t be a busybody about the transition of power or matters involving others.”
Azmin, who is the PKR deputy president, today backed a call by PAS and Umno for Mahathir to remain till the end of Pakatan Harapan’s five-year mandate.
He said Mahathir was still needed to lead Malaysia as he would ensure “stability, continuity and consistency” in the government’s efforts to attract investors and create jobs.
The statement comes as tension persists between Anwar and Azmin over a gay sex video implicating the latter.
Azmin has since skipped PKR leadership meetings, with speculation pointing to his exit from the party.
