Don’t go overboard, says Annuar after outbursts by KJ, Nazri
(FMT) – Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa sees nothing wrong in two senior party members speaking out against the appointment of Najib Razak as the main adviser to the Barisan Nasional.
Annuar said there was no reason for disciplinary action to be taken against Supreme Council member Nazri Aziz and former Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin.
“There was nothing wrong in voicing a personal opinion,” Annuar said “The adviser role isn’t something that is enshrined in BN’s constitution. It is administrative in nature and the appointment was based on a consensus.
However, Annuar also urged “all quarters against going overboard with their criticisms”.
Nazri and Khairy had voiced dissatisfaction with party president and BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for allowing former BN chairman Najib to be the coalition’s main adviser.
They said the decision was not in line with Umno’s interests.
Annuar said that Zahid, as the BN chairman, was open to views on the matter.
Nazri had also said the decision was not one made by the Umno Supreme Council, of which he is a member, while Khairy said it would be “insane” to expect BN and Umno to achieve different results with Najib in an influential position.
On July 9, Barisan secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor announced Najib’s appointment as the chairman of the Barisan Nasional advisory board.
Najib resigned as Umno president last year in the wake of BN’s defeat at the 14th general election.
