The MACC appears like the 5th coalition member of Pakatan Harapan

Combating corruption is my priority, not the details of my uniform, said Latheefa Koya, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner. Yes, “combating corruption”, that is the key word here. That is what the MACC plus its boss should be doing.

However, if I did not know better, I would perceive that the job of the MACC is not to combat corruption but to combat the enemies of Pakatan Harapan, whoever they may be. The MACC appears to be acting like the fifth coalition member of Pakatan Harapan. As I said, if I did not know better, then that is what I would perceive.

But then is not perception everything? Is it not perception that managed to bring down Umno and Barisan Nasional in GE14? Perception is the most important thing and the perception I get, right or wrong, is that the MACC is an arm of Pakatan Harapan and its job is to attack enemies of Pakatan Harapan.

During the old days of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, they accused the government of selective prosecution and persecution. That was the whole reason the Reformasi Movement was born in 1998, and Latheefa was one of the activists involved in its early days. Has she forgotten her roots now that she is in the government and has she turned into the very monster that we opposed and wanted to get rid of?
