DPM: Decision to broadcast Najib’s trial lies with the courts

(The Star) – It is entirely up to the courts to decide whether to broadcast the high-profile trial of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak involving RM42mil in SRC International Sdn Bhd funds scheduled to start Wednesday (April 3).

However, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pic), however, said the government had no intention to turn the trial into a “circus”.

“This is under the court’s jurisdiction, so we will let them decide.

“Although we feel that the rakyat should know the proceedings of the trial, but we do not want to make it a circus.

Dr Wan Azizah said this after she was asked to comment on whether she was agreeable to idea of broadcasting the high-profile case.

Najib had previously expressed support for the idea, saying “the rakyat has the right to know the truth.”

On the growing calls to make the Council of Eminents’ Person (CEP) 100-day report public, she said the Cabinet would be making a decision.

“I was made to understand that the Cabinet will make a decision.

“I will discuss this with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” she said.

She added there were several matters within the report that had yet to finalised and needed to be completed.

“All the sensitive issues and information, we will have to take that into consideration,” she said.
