Trio linked to Rafizi’s research firm, Invoke, nabbed over drugs

(The Star) – Police have arrested three suspects linked to a research body established by PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli for having cannabis in their possession.

Sentul police chief S Shanmugamoorthy confirmed to FMT the trio were arrested at a condominium at Taman Mutiara in Jinjang, Sentul, at 12.30am today after a tip-off.

The suspects – two women and a man, aged between 25 and 30, have been remanded for six days.

Two of them are marketing executives and graphic designers at Invoke and the third is a former staff.

About 75gm of the drugs were found in their possession, Shanmugamoorthy said.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“If convicted, they can be imprisoned for no less than five years and caned,” he said in a statement later.

In a separate statement, Rafizi said he had no information of the matter apart from reading media reports on it.

He said Invoke’s lawyers would find out more from the police.

“I leave it to the authorities to investigate the case.

“Any dealings outside office hours are the personal affairs of the staff,” he said, adding that if offences were committed, disciplinary action would be taken in accordance with the labour laws and company policy.

Invoke is a non-profit organisation founded by Rafizi in 2016. It manages political campaigns and employs call centre staff, statisticians, software developers and campaign strategists.

It aims to be the first professionally run public campaign organisation in Asean.
