Raja Petra’s daughter leaves Gerakan

(Bernama) – Raja Sara Petra confirms her departure from Gerakan, having joined the party that was formerly part of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition in 2017.

Raja Sara is the daughter of controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin.

Responding to Bernama via WhatsApp, Raja Sara confirmed that she is no longer with Gerakan and she has also resigned from all party posts including as deputy chief of the party’s women’s wing.

“Yes, I resigned last Friday,” she said.

Her father had shared her resignation letter on Twitter on Friday.

Raja Sara, 30, was the only woman to contest the party’s vice presidency last November.

Responding to Bernama via WhatsApp, Raja Sara confirmed that she is no longer with Gerakan and she has also resigned from all party posts including as deputy chief of the party’s women’s wing.

She is also the sole Malay woman in the national Gerakan Wanita’s committee for the 2018-2021 term.

Meanwhile, Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau confirmed receiving Raja Sara’s resignation letter on Friday.

“Raja Sara did not give any reasons pertaining to her resignation, but we accept it and respect her decision,” he said.

He added that a central committee meeting would be held next week in Penang to select a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy left by her departure.

“We will leave the decision to the national Gerakan Wanita’s committee to select a suitable candidate to fill the post,” he said.
