PKR will ensure next PM is from party: Zuraida

(Bernama) – PKR will continue to promote the agenda to have a prime minister candidate from the party and this will not stop with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s eighth prime minister, said its former Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin (pix).

In fact, she said after Anwar, the party would continue with the mission including naming a woman for the country’s number one post.

The PKR vice-president candidate said it was not impossible for PKR to achieve this goal.

“We also want the ninth, tenth, eleventh and subsequent prime ministers to be from PKR and among the females. In three years’ time, I hope to see a woman mentri besar from among us and this is not impossible.

“Wanita PKR has advanced to be more knowledgeable, competent, competitive, courageous and very progressive in the party compared to other parties,” she said in a special address at the end of the 2018 Wanita PKR National Congress here today.

Wanita PKR she added, has progressed over the last 20 years, noting that of the 30 women candidates who offered to contest as division heads and in the recent party election, 17 won the post.

Zuraida expressed the hope that Wanita PKR would continue to step up and strengthen the party machinery so that more women would lead the divisions in the next party election.

She said Wanita PKR seemed to be more enthusiastic now and this spirit should be maintained by going down to the ground so that the party could move further ahead.

“We are already there and we must unleash our potential. Do not be afraid,” she added.
