Govt expected to detain more opposition politicians, claims Najib’s ex-special officer

(The Star) – The government is expected to detain more opposition politicians in the next few months, claims a former special officer to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Isham Jalil said that history was repeating itself, as 31 years on from Operasi Lalang, six Opposition politicians have been called up for investigations, with three of them thrown into the lock-up.

“The history of political oppression of the opposition in Malaysia during the 1980-90s was repeating itself, as the government is trying to oppress and force the opposition to bow down to them,” he said in a statement posted on Umno online on Monday (Oct 22).

He said anyone who resisted the government would be destroyed or thrown into prison, alleging that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was used for this purpose.

Former premier Najib and former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are among those facing numerous corruption charges in court.

Isham also asked why no Pakatan Harapan politicians were questioned and detained since the election in May, although some of them were linked with corruption while governing Penang and Selangor.

“Have they become so clean since winning the polls? One of them, who is a minister, has been released, although all the witness statements haven’t been heard in court,” he said.

He claimed that if the opposition was destroyed, there would only be a one-party system in the country and this would result in the government betraying the people.

“They can continue lying and breaking their promises because they know there will not be any strong challengers during elections.

“And the Prime Minister can continue being a dictator with draconian powers,” he said, adding that the government could even change the Constitution and get rid of the royal institution.

Isham said this should not happen and they had to oppose the government.
